Harry Radford was never really the manager of Forest. His official title was Secretary. However, Harry Radford was the first to make a significant impact at the club with input into player recruitment, team planning and the development of tactics. He may not have had the title of manager, but in all but name he was doing the job. Harry joined Forest from the local corporation and as an astute organizer he was quick to make things happen. Prior to Harry's appointment, the membership of Forest had been happy to let things drift along, but Harry soon gave them a swift kick up the backside to wake them up. Harry not only established the Alliance to give Forest experience and an identity, but he also fought Forest's cause behind the scenes when they were elected to the Football League. He had a good eye for players and made some significant acquisitions, particularly from Scotland, which enabled Forest to quickly establish themselves amongst the elite.
