Despite having the best possible start, Forest still slumped to a comprehensive defeat at the hands of Joe Royle's promotion chasers, and now only one point separates them from a place in the dreaded relegation zone. It all looked so promising when after 7 minutes CBW collected the ball out near the left hand touchline, turned inside and fired in a shot that had it all - power, accuracy, swerve and dip. All Nicky Weaver could do was grasp at thin air as it beat him all ends up and slammed into the back of the net. For whatever reason, and not for the first time this season, Forest appeared to sit back and invite City back to the party. For the remainder of the half the Reds just didn't compete, and City are not the kind of side who need asking twice.

They took the game to Forest and deservedly drew level after 31 minutes, although in my opinion it was more of a defensive error than outstanding skill that produced the goal. Taylor was far too strong and maybe a little too street wise for young Doig, and after forcing his way into the box he produced a clinical finish to beat Beasant.

The gloating City fans had hardly settled back into their seats when incredibly they were ahead. Again it was a defensive error that produced the goal. If Doigs error was down to inexperience, what the hell is Scimeca's explanation? My granny is 83 years old and she could have made a better job of marking Goater. Scimeca's attempted clearance was nothing short of pathetic as he totally misjudged the bounce of the ball and then tried in vain to get his head on it. Goater nipped in behind him and as Beasant raced off his line the City forward cooly lobbed it over Lurch and into the back of the net. All credit to Goater, he took it superbly - it can't be easy lobbing a keeper as tall as Lurch from so close in.

Forest did try harder in the second half, but you always felt that City had another goal in their locker. Despite efforts from Rogers - a free kick that missed everyone and forced Weaver to make a very good save - and a long range shot from Merino that was deflected just wide, it was indeed City who scored the vital goal, and it was yet another gimme. Rogers conceded a needless free kick and when the ball was fired into the box Beasant came for a ball he really should have got. Instead of attacking the ball though, Beasant seemed to wait for it to arrive and Goater suddenly appeared in front of him to power the ball into the net and complete a miserable afternoon for Forest.
