Forest edged further away from the relegation zone this afternoon as they fought out an uninspiring draw against Stoke, who had come to the City Ground with the intention of killing off any entertainment and getting the draw.
So full credit goes to Stoke, who were 100% successful in killing the game off and depriving everyone of any fun. While Forest can take little from the game, other than the point, as they struggled to make any headway and lacked the class needed to break down such a resolute Stoke side.
The win for Forest would have taken them past the 50-point mark and almost guarantee safety, so it was no surprise that Neil Cutler was the first goalkeeper to see action, when Marlon King found room to shoot from the edge of the area.
But after the early burst of action the game became a dreary slog as chances proved rare for both sides.
Even the introduction of David Johnson 15 minutes from time failed to inspire Forest and the majority of the sell out crowd greeted the final whistle with some relief.
Not a classic game by any stretch of the imagination- but an important point.
