Pathetic, dire, disgraceful, inept, spineless. Just a few of many ways to describe the performance that the eleven players ( I can't bring myself to call them a team ) served up to the many die-hard fans who made their way to Field Mill for tonight's 2nd leg. Although we knew that many of the first team would be rested for tonight's encounter, surely we would still put out a side that would be too strong for the Stags. After all, these Forest players are knocking on the door for a first team place and therefore would take the opportunity to impress the Boss. Not a bit of it!! |

Mansfield dominated from the off, with the Reds never getting going, as time and again they were taken apart. Only Nigel Quashie and Bernard Allou created any sort of opening, Allou's shot from outside the box cannoning off the bar with the keeper rooted to the spot. |

Mansfield continued to dominate in the second half ( can anyone remember when Mansfield last did that? ) and it came as no real surprise when they finally took the lead. Peacock collected the ball just outside the area and drove the ball under Beasant. Indeed, they could have doubled their advantage and set up a tense final ten minutes when Peacock out jumped the Reds defence and forced Beasant to tip the ball over the top. |

I can't think of one player worthy of any special praise, but on the other side of the coin, Melton looked lost and Hjelde was truly awful.
I can only hope that the players take a long hard look at themselves in the cold light of day and are as embarrassed as they made us feel when we were making the walk back to our cars. |

Anyone who knows me will realise that compiling this report has given me no satisfaction at all, but I will always try to tell it as I see it. |
